I never imagined I'd be steering my own ship, let alone inspired to help others do the same. For the longest time, I thought I’d retire at some corporate job, content with climbing the ladder. My journey began back in 2005 as a sales associate for Radio Shack, right before Hurricane Katrina hit and turned everything upside down. But I kept pushing forward, working at Radio Shack in Georgia, where my leadership journey began. I was the youngest leader on the team, and oh, I made sure they saw me too!
Over the years, my path stayed rooted in leadership—learning, growing, and perfecting my skills. I lead with passion and empathy, and up until now, I’ve been pretty successful. But now, I’m using those same skills to invest in myself, and let me tell you, it’s terrifying. Where do you start? What happens next? You really don’t know, and that uncertainty can feel overwhelming.
For the past three years, I’ve been searching for my way, trying to define my brand and my purpose. Now, I realize that my purpose is to lead, coach, and help others. But how do you accomplish that when your credit is bad, you have no money, and all you’ve got is a plan?
Here’s what I’ve learned so far:
Step 1: Decide what your products or services are going to be, and how they will make an impact on your community and future consumers.
Step 2: Write it all out. Make a realistic plan of action. Get help if you need it—whether that’s from friends, family, or anyone who believes in your journey.
Step 3: (This one’s crucial) Figure out your financial needs and how you’re going to fund your new business.
Step 4: The most important step—once you’ve established your business and secured funding, DON’T GIVE UP when things get hard or complicated. Don’t let others tell you it’s crazy to invest in yourself.
This journey isn’t easy. Some days, I struggle to even get out of bed because I feel so alone in it. But I do it—I get up and I keep going. And guess what? Doors are starting to open, and my voice is finally being heard. That’s proof that dedication and hard work pay off.
Believing in yourself is the key to success. If you don’t believe in yourself, how can you expect anyone else to? You are your biggest supporter, so show it and be proud. Oh, and let’s not forget—fixing your credit helps, trust me! Building a brand is tough, but it’s also one of the most exciting
